Blumenthal and Kennedy on the Republican Gomorrah

The religious right is one of the most powerful movements in the country. No other group in history has been able to achieve what the religious right has, no matter how many millions of dollars they pump into a politician.

Journalist Max Blumenthal has been covering the religious right for years and speculates that the movement is fueled by desperate people who have given up their freedom for the safety of authoritarianism. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., discussed the religious right with Blumethal, author of the new book "Republican Gomorrah."

Blumenthal talked about how James Dobson used the psychology of authoritarianism to fuel the religious right, which fears the future and change.

Kennedy compared the far religious right with the early Nazi movement in Germany, but Blumenthal was reluctant to make the comparison. They talked about corporate sponsorship for conservative and liberal points of view, and the more important powerful links that empower the religious right's movement.

Because the Christian right is so strong in the Republican party, Blumenthal speculated that moderates within the GOP will not win.
