Wild Goose Chase Reclaim the Adventure of Pursuing God

Most of us have no idea where we're going most of the time. Perfect.
"Celtic Christians had a name for the Holy Spirit–An Geadh-Glas, or 'the Wild Goose.' The name hints at mystery. Much like a wild goose, the Spirit of God cannot be tracked or tamed. An element of danger, an air of unpredictability surround Him. And while the name may sound a little sacrilegious, I cannot think of a better description of what it's like to follow the Spirit through life. I think the Celtic Christians were on to something– .
Most of us will have no idea where we are going most of the time. And I know that is unsettling. But circumstantial uncertainty also goes by another name: Adventure." –from the introduction

5 Stars Breaking Free From Cages
In Batterson's follow up to In a Pit With a Lion On a Snowy Day, he continues to challenge readers to pursue God given callings and break free of mediocrity and the status quo. Wild Goose Chase goes into further detail on some of the "cages" that hold us back from pursuing God's call on our lives.
Be careful though, don't read this book if you just want a warm fuzzy pick me up. Batterson is not afraid to get up in your face and make you uncomfortable. This is exactly the type of challenge that many people need. Rather than sitting back and being "irresponsibly responsible" he encourages readers to pursue "responsible irresponsibility." In other words sometimes, the Holy Spirit, known to Celtic Christians as the wild goose, will prompt you to do something which seems illogical on the surface but when seeking after and pursuing Him, will take you on adventures and higher heights never imaginable from the comforts of the routine.
The book is filled with examples of people who seek after the wild goose and do dangerous things. Satan is afraid of dangerous Christians. He much prefers nice timid Christians who are afraid to break out of the mold and pursue challenges laid before them by God. Like a wild animal in its natural environment, Batterson encourages us to be wild and dangerous in the environment God has called us to.
Read this book then go out and be a mighty warrior, chasing where the wild goose leads.
5 Stars God-ordained passion becomes your responsibility. p.20
Every once in awhile I come across a book that leaves me wanting to devour it from cover to cover in one sitting and, at the same time, read slowly and savor every word, prolonging the time before it inevitably ends. This is one of those books. Mark's passion for the God-infused life is evident in the work he is doing and he, like me, wants every person to experience the adventure of fulfilling their God-given mission, purpose, or destiny (call it what you like). I call it living out our Bible Story. I won't be passing my copy along. Nope! But I will be buying more books to give away as gifts. Great for everyone, high school and up!
5 Stars Packed With Great Thoughts, Ideas, and Life-Changing Help.
I've found myself in more than one spiritual cage. At times I've wondered why the Christian walk had to be so cumbersome and hard. Other times I've found myself looking on at someone who bubbles joy or oozes peace and wondered what I'm doing wrong. Mark Batterson reveals some powerful ideas and help in identifying spiritual malaise and doldrums. He asks hard questions and gives life altering advice.
As with all really great and meaty books written about the Christian walk. Don't think you can buy this and gather help and wisdom by osmosis. This book requires that a person rise to the challenges and absorb the truth.
Wild Goose Chase will spark a bit of controversy in the usual circles that struggle with different ideas. The only negative I had was the occasional NCC commercial that seemed to run throughout the book. But then again, he was using his life as examples and NCC is a big part of his life.
This little book is packed with helpful thoughts and suggestions, Biblical examples and personal stories. I would recommend it to small groups as a great study. Or to individuals as a possible life changing adventure.
5 Stars Wild Goose Chase-Batterson
Batterson's portrayal of contemporary Christian's need to engage with their faith was inspiring, thoughtful and well-presented. I highly recommend it for all Christians to read, particularly in view of current economic and social needs in the United States and the world. His exhortation to assess the things that make you sad, mad or glad and do something about those things.
