The Vatican Searches for Alien Life

The Associated Press reports that the Vatican has called in experts to study the possibility of extraterrestrial alien life and its implication for the Catholic Church.

In June 2008, Father Jose Gabriel Funes, a Jesuit priest, astronomer and director of the Vatican Observatory, created a stir within the Catholic community with his remarks about extraterrestrial life.

Earlier, in May 2008, he remarked in the Vatican observatory's newspaper that:

Just as we consider earthly creatures as a "brother" and "sister," why should we not talk about an "extraterrestrial brother?" It would still be part of creation.
