If someone is healed from a serious skin disease such as leprosy, then he has to give the priests animals to be sacrificed as part of a "purification ceremony."   This includes smearing blood on the person who was healed.

God says that he is going to contaminate homes in the land of Canaan with "the plague of leprosy" and when the Israelites get there, there are further priestly instructions for purifying the homes, including killing birds and splattering a blood and water mixture in the home.   In the translation that Chelev is reading below, this "plague of leprosy" is called mildew.

Why would God contaminate the homes in the promised land in the first place?   Would this be to keep the priests busy?

Leprosy is an ancient, almost forgotten condition, according to the U.N. As shown in this video from the United Nations (produced in February 2009), residents of a leprosy camp in Sudan say the government may take over their camp, leaving them looking for a new place to live.

AlJareeza reports that when untreated, leprosy leaves sufferers with skin sores and weak muscles and can leave patients unable to walk.

Leprosy, is a curable disease that's been wiped out in most countries. But in Iraq – leprosy sufferers in the south are kept in appalling conditions, and receive little treatment. The World Health Organization can provide drugs that treat and cure the disease for free, but these cures have not made it to Iraq's sufferers.
