Born Fundamentalist Born Again Catholic

Born Fundamentalist Born Again Catholic

David Currie was raised in a devout Christian family whose father was a fundamentalist preacher and both parents teachers at Moody Bible Institute. Currie's whole upbringing was immersed in the life of fundamentalist Protestantism – theology professors, seminary presidents and founders of evangelical mission agencies were frequent guests at his family dinner table. Currie received a degree from Trinity International University and studied in the Masters of Divinity program. This book was written as an explanation to his fundamentalist and evangelical friends and family about why he became a Roman Catholic. Currie presents a very lucid, systematic and intelligible account of the reasons for his conversion to the ancient Church that Christ founded. He gives a detailed discussion of the important theological and doctrinal beliefs Catholic and evangelicals hold in common, as well as the key doctrines that separate us, particularly the Eucharist, the Pope, and Mary.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars The best of its kind
This is a wonderful book that I would recommend to all non-Roman Catholic Christians. I have bought this for all of my fundamentalist friends (though I don't think any of them have actually read it). Much better than Keating's 'Catholicism and Fundamentalism'

5 Stars MUST READ
This book is a must read for anyone who thinks the Catholic Church is totally wrong. It is a personal story of a man who thought his faith was the only one and Catholicism was just plain wrong. I think people would really understand Catholicism if they only understood what it actually was. People often believe what they are told (by non-Catholics lol) and fail to look at the facts. Every Catholic, and non-Catholic, should read this book.

5 Stars Personal Journey
I read this several years ago and was touched by the author's personal journey in life and his discoveries that lead him to become Catholic. His story resounded with my own story as I left my Catholic Church in my early 20s and returned after finally learning the content of my faith that had never been taught or encouraged in me. So I related to many of David's experiences and gazed in wonderment at his experiences that were different than mine. I recommend the book as a beautiful journey of personal faith for one man.

4 Stars Born Again
This book has the potential to further greater understanding between Christians. The different religious perspectives are clearly explained by the author who personally experienced participation in both faiths. His unique perspective allows both Catholics and Non-Catholics to discover historical precedents for their religious beliefs.

5 Stars interesting and informative
I am Catholic and love my faith. Many people have been trying to "save my soul" by getting me to leave my faith. Wanting to arm myself against their attacks and criticism, I bought this book. It explains why Catholics believe what we believe and do what we do. It doesn't criticize evangelicals or fundamentalists, but it explains what they believe about Catholics. It is interesting, quick to read, and gave me even greater commitment to my faith as well as the ability to defend it. My sincere thanks to the author.
