The Bible Slam: Leviticus Chapter 10

Aaron's sons, Nadab and Abihu, screwed up and didn't burn the fire right.   So God burns them up.   This is how God "displays his glory."

Aaron doesn't try to save his sons, nor does he argue about what happened. God tells Aaron and his family, "Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes" in grief for the two who were killed by fire.   The penalty for breaking this command would be death and all of Israel would be punished.

Further instructions are given:   There is to be no alcoholic consumption before entering the tabernacle.

So Aaron and his remaining sons kill some more animals as sin offerings and Moses yells at them because they didn't do it quite right.   But Aaron explains why he did not eat the meat of the sin offering and Moses is satisfied.

This is a sick and twisted book.   How can people read a chapter like this and say that the bible serves as a moral compass in their lives?
