The Bible Slam: Leviticus Chapter 01

This chapter details the gory blood and burnt offering sacrifices demanded of God from the Israelites.   God wants unblemished bulls, turtledoves and young pigeons to be burned on the tabernacle altar "for a sweet savour unto the Lord."

Discussion Points.

For a starving people with nothing but manna to eat for 40 years (see the discussion in Exodus 29), they sure kill a lot of animals for God!   Also, considering the finery of Aaron and the priests' clothing, as well as the gold, silver, bronze and fancy ornaments in the tabernacle, splattering blood all over these expensive items is an interesting practice.

You can read the King James version of Leviticus Chapter 1 at Skeptics Annotated Bible, which highlights the variety of animal sacrifices.
