The attention of people around the world has come to a culmination today with the mass exodus of Christians fleeing from their homes in the Northern Iraqi city of Mosul. Muslim's hate towards Christians has created a situation so desperate that even Iraq's parliament has implored its citizens to protect themselves through all means necessary. “Ninety-nine percent of the Christians have left Mosul,” pastor Haitham Jazrawi said today following the takeover of Iraq’s second largest city—and its ancient Christian homeland—by al-Qaeda-linked jihadist militants. Unfortunately, horrific explosions are occurring and militants are infiltrating areas of Iraq's Christian population. A population which, was once one of the oldest in the world.
The Quran eerily preaches "If only they [i.e. Christians] had stood fast by the Law, the Gospel, and all the revelation that was sent to them from their Lord, they would have enjoyed happiness from every side. There is from among them a party on the right course, but many of them follow a course that is evil".
As Iraqi troops hasten to organize their resources, the ISIL fighters have continued working their way south towards the country's strategic oilfields. This is also the place where pastor Jazrawi leads one of the country's oldest Christian churches. Pastor Jazrawi commented via e-mail, “No one knows what will happen to us in the next days, pray for us. We still believe that our Lord wants us to stay in Iraq.”
