Shockingly insensitive and viciously immoral: Bryan Fischer blames Connecticut children's shooting deaths on lack of prayer in schools

BryanFischerBryan Fischer, never one to delay making political hay while his twisted version of the sun shines, said on his radio show American Family Radio that the reason why 20 children and 6 adults victimized in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut  were blown away was because America doesn't want prayer in public school.  His shockingly arrogant, immoral, and insensitive comments sent shockwaves through Internet media:

“You know the question’s gonna come up, where was God?” he said. “I thought God cared about the little children, God protected the little children. Where was God when all this went down? And here’s the bottom line: God is not gonna go where he’s not wanted. Now we have spent, since 1962, this, we’re 50 years into this now, we have spent 50 years telling God to get lost. Telling God, we do not want you in our schools, we don’t want to pray to you in our schools, we don’t want to pray to you before football games, we don’t want to pray to you at graduation, we don’t want anyone talking about you in a graduation speech.”

“We’ve kicked God out of our public school system,” he went on. “And I think God would say to us, ‘Hey I’ll be glad to protect your children, but you’ve gotta invite me back into your world first. I’m not gonna go where I’m not wanted. I am a gentleman.’”

This disgusting piece of filth says stuff like he does; his comments on the Connecticut massacre isn't the first, it's just the worst. And then he sits around and wonders why "nones" are the fastest growing religious group, especially among people under 30.

    • That's an easy question. "Nones" are growing because the number of people that have any knowledge and understanding of the Bible and Christianity are decreasing. Ignorance is the reason the "nones" are choosing poorly. For the majority of our country's history, Biblical literacy was a required school subject…back when schools educated instead of brainwashed.

      • John P.

It is interesting that you believe ignorance of the Bible is the key reason that people are falling away from religion. This belief is essentially identical to the beliefs of Muslim extremists who make up the bulk of terrorists today. They believe that all men are inherently born Muslims but are "distracted" from the true faith by the evils of the world and, when given even the slightest taste of the One True Faith (Islam), will instantly convert. That's why they feel justified in killing anyone they capture who doesn't immediately convert. What you said is very similar: if people got enough of a dose of the Bible, they would automatically embrace whatever flavor of Christianity you think they should.

I submit that many of the people who are now "nones" are that way not because they lack information about the Bible and Christianity, but because they have more than enough information about the hate, ignorance and intolerance of many Christians, notably including Brian Fischer.

Lastly, it's amusing that you think secular education is a form of brainwashing, when Christians are working so hard to brainwash their own children via home schooling, via trying to get creationism into the science curriculum, etc. And even with such increased emphasis on brainwashing their kids into religion, kids are leaving the evangelical church at an alarming rate. Perhaps more Bible study isn't the issue.

        • Diane Yoder

          Go, John P!

        • Sean Lee Walthour

altho I mainly agree, there's one flaw in ur assessment. to be "muslim" simply means to be in submission to the will of God, this is WHY they call all tye prophets muslims. Arab culture and Islam is seperate. still in all, ur right on. down with religion 😉

      • Diane Yoder

And we had bad things happen to good people back then in those days too.

        • Sean Lee Walthour

I wonder what's his excuse when churches, etc. are bombed, shot up n so on 😉

      • Peter

Perhaps the "nones" are growing not because of ignorance but because of knowledge. They reject the murderous OT god and see how how dismal modern Christianity is, a far cry from whatever Jesus taught. Historians will see that the internet sparked this religious revolution. They don't have to rely on whatever a preacher told them an edited version of the bible on Sunday but can research it themselves. Long overdue

      • Actually NONES are a product of KNOWLEDGE not IGNORANCE, religion is the source of brainwash. Teaching that the first man was created 6,000 years ago is absurd. IDK what school you went to but, biblical literacy was/is not a required school subject. WE are not choosing poorly, we are waking up and choosing correctly. You might also want to study and research what this country is founded upon and refrain from passing off your opinions as facts 😉

        • dagobarbz

I'd address this, but I have to go saddle up the old Brontosaurus and head to work…

      • Spuddie

You moron. For "the majority of our country's history" we did not have a system of public education. Schools were by and large private. There has never been any prohibition on school led prayer in private schools.

Once taxpayers of all faiths started paying into the education system, the idea of "biblical literacy" comes head-on with our guaranteed religious freedoms. Our government was not set up to defend your faith.

Its the insensitive ignorant idiocy of people like yourself which makes choosing "None" the saner choice of faith for many. I would be deeply ashamed to share the same faith as someone like yourself. You are an embarrassment to anyone who claims to profess belief in the teachings of Christ.

      • Godlesspanther

You could look up exchristian.net and read what they have said about leaving xtianity. You could also research the history of education in the US.

But I'm sure you wont do that because you are just going to believe what you would like to be true even though it's not really true.

      • dagobarbz

Do I need to understand anything about Christianity but the hate speech I hear spewing from that corner? You people hate everything; science, gays, women, family planning, tomatos…it's like a mental illness or something, especially when you squawk about how your hate-filled intolerance would somehow make the world a better place if only Christianity were in charge.

Well, Audry, you've had the past millennium or so to get it right and you haven't. Time to try something new, like a world without religious superstition interfering with progress. Just relax and enjoy it. Or fight it and lose.

Without the certainty of superstition, we can't lose. Science and logic FOR THE WIN!

      • Sean Lee Walthour

        (1) that wasn't a QUESTION, it was a STATEMENT. Which clearly shows U can't tell the difference lol. Furthermore, the reason NONES are growing is due to them actually READING the bible, not the other way around. I mean Yahweh says it himself, he is a DECEIVER (Ezekiel 14:9), He was DEFEATED by manmade weapons (Judges 1:19) ,He personally sold africans to jews and arabs (Joel 3:8), He takes credit for destroyin man's unity (Tower of Babel), the list goes on… I'm afraid the only people who remain Christians, etc. are those who are ignorant and stubbornly believe false information out of desperation. Yahweh says POISON IVY, OAK IS EDIBLE (Genesis 1:29). seems to me like the "nones" are the ones paying attention.. keep waiting for am omnipresent deity to return? thats insanity

  • I wouldn't put it past Yaweh to do something so evil….

  • Anna Battista

He's horrible and not what our nation needs right now. Yes,I believe prayer works wonders but how can you say god didn't belong there? He needs to apologize to god for saying that.

    • Sean Lee Walthour

Explain to me HOW prayer works lol.. I bet a good amount of those victims prayed before they were slaid.. mattef fact ur "god" knew before they were all born, what was comin.. he's a deadbeat daddy at best lmaooooo

  • The mean stream media was even quicker to make "political hay" from this shooting. Just minutes after the shooting, they were talking about gun control laws.

    • Diane Yoder

Your argument is a false dichotomy for a variety of reasons. Reason number one: Prayer is allowed in schools. There is no law that says students cannot pray. Reason number two: Prayer enforced upon the student population sponsored by the school by a particular faith is not allowed because the public pays taxes to the school, and those people are a variety of faiths. Reason 3: A gunman walked into Nickel Mines Amish school where they pray twice a day–once before school and once after school and shot ten Amish girls, killing all but one. They had God in their school, yet God failed to save them. People full of hate and ignorance regarding every faith but yours–your time is over. You can't get elected to anything. I'll pray for you.

    • Diane Yoder

These good, church going people apparently didn't have God in their lives either, according to your logic and Mr. Fischer's:

February 14, 2010 – Richmond, California -Three hooded men

walk into Gethsemane Church of God in Christ and opened fire and then fled the scene, as the singing of the choir was replaced by frightened screams. The two victims, a 14-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, were hospitalized. March 8, 2009 – Maryville, Illinois -Suspect Terry Joe Sedlacek, 27, of Troy, walks into the First Baptist Church, and shoots pastor Fred Winters dead, point blank. Several church members are injured by a knife in the struggle to capture after the attack, The suspect also had stabbed himself, but survived, when his gun jams. July 27, 2008 – Knoxville, Tennessee – A gunman opens fire in a church during a youth performance, killing two people and injuring seven. Feb. 26, 2006 – Detroit, Michigan -Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church – 2 killed + shooter – Kevin L. Collins, who reportedly went to the church looking for his girlfriend, later killed himself. April 9, 2005 – College Park, Georgia -A 27-year-old airman died after being shot at a church, where he had once worked as a security guard. March 12, 2005 – Brookfield, Wisconsin -Living Church of God – 7 killed + shooter – Terry Ratzmann opened fire on the congregation, killing seven and wounding four before taking his own life. April 15, 1999 – Salt Lake City, Utah -LDS Church Family History Library -2 killed + shooter – Sergei Babarin, 70, with a history of mental illness, entered the library, killed two people and wounded four others before he was gunned down by police.
      – Don't forget also the shooting at the Amish School near Lancaster, PA in the late 90's. I'm pretty sure they "allowed" God in THEIR school, but the shooting still happened and people still died. THINK BEFORE YOU SPEAK. Know the truth; don't spread ignorance!!!

      • Deborah_B

We should turn this into an article. Good points.

      • Godlesspanther

Thank you Diane, this is a good example for Bryan Fischer worshipers.

For those of you who think that BF has anything to say — what Diane Yoder has done hear is something that we call 'research.' Your imaginary friend hates it but it does serve an earthly purpose. It provides real information. Not just what your cult leaders tell you to think — but information that allows you to examine things honestly and think for yourselves. — yeah I know all the things that your imaginary goo-goo hates.

      • dagobarbz

Thank you so much for this comprehensive list! Believe me, I'll put it to good use! <3

  • Brian Fischer is exactly right. When a nation abandons God, we just get more godless behavior. People can feign outrage at Mr. Fischer's honest comments, or we as a nation can take a stand against those who want to banish God from the public sphere.

    • Peter

Yours and Fischer’s remarks are reprehensible, disgusting and incomprehensible which most people find are repulsive at a time like this. Please, don’t bring the lame, tired argument about your psychopathic god, who given his actions in the OT probably enjoyed the carnage. Anyway, if you think the reason is because people abandoned your kind, loving god, what does a five-year-old know about god? Why did he see fit to allow this person to murder these innocents when according to you he’s omnipotent and had the power to stop it, but didn’t. What does that say about your deity? And talking about gun control is not making “political hay” out of this dastardly act. It’s a legitimate question your country must address. Apparently, the mother of the shooter, Adam Lanza, owned four guns and his father two. Why does anyone need six guns? There are 300 million registered guns in America, nearly enough for every man, woman and child so it’s not making political hay to bring up the question of gun control.

      • Spuddie

I think the only way such thickheaded morons would understand the gravity of the situation would be if their own children were brutally murdered. They just don't have empathy for fellow human beings. So unless it happens to them, they just won't understand what the reaction of normal people is supposed to be when tragedy strikes.

        • Peter

          Good point, and I agree.

    • Spuddie

Gofish, Gofuckyourself. How dare you sling that self righteous garbage at a time like this.

    • Godlesspanther

Look up the definition of the word 'honest.' You will find that it does not mean what you think it means.

    • Sean Lee Walthour

how the fuck can a being that's supposed to be EVERYWHERE be BANISHED? Whats ur excuse for churches that get bombed, etc. ??? #UrAhFuckinAsshole

  • Brian Fischer is right. How many school shootings did we have when kids said the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer every morning? None, despite the fact that quite a few had guns in their vehicles every day.

God is a gentleman. He gave all of us, including raving maniacs, the freedom to choose our actions. He does not force Himself on any who reject Him. He does not force His will onto the world. Because He allows us to do horrific things, some will constantly choose to take lives, whether by guns, knives (as in China and Britain), arrows (as in the Wyoming incident), or by the hands of abortion doctors.

He does not make this world right…yet. In time, He will. For now, He only makes the next world right.

And what difference does it make that his parents owned several guns? Millions of people own several guns and never, ever shoot another person. Many people have used their guns to save multiple lives!! In fact, if the principal of this school had been armed, there may have only been 1 dead person in this incident!

    • Diane Yoder

Clearly, listening to you, you are right. God DID give raving maniacs the right to choose their actions.

      • Sean Lee Walthour

he also KNEW their actions in advance so those actions were set in stone before they were born to perform them.. just imagine, He looked into HITLER'S future, saw his deeds n said "ah well fuck it" and gave the bastard the breath of life anyway

    • Diane Yoder

Yeah, I'm sure God, the creator of your commandment "Thou shalt not kill" (who repeatedly breaks his own commandment through the Old Testament and is thus a creation of man, not of God, for men wrote the Bible, not God), would love your logic.

    • Peter

"God is a gentleman!!" Perhaps you should read the OT to see the true characteristics of your kind, loving god. He was the first mid-east terrorist.

    • Spuddie

      You are a genuine IDIOT.
"How many school shootings did we have when kids said the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer every morning?"

      -Charles Whitman comes to mind
-Those kids in the Amish school who were shot up a few years ago said their prayers daily

If the principal had a gun and there was a shootout in the school, then you could double the number dead.

The police, specially trained in the use of firearms in high pressure situations accidentally seriously wounded 8 people when dealing with Midtown shooter in NYC who wasn't even firing back. So please spare me the NRA "more guns is the solution bullcrap". Most people who carry concealed firearm permits barely know how to use them and have even less experience using them in a high pressure situation.

      • dagobarbz

Don't confuse the poor bible thumper with facts! They have it all figured out until facts get in the way. Amish kids, school shooting. Think they excluded god from their education?
So why did god let that guy shoot all the little true believers? Innocent children who trusted in his name…nice imaginary friend you got there. I think I'd prefer a giant rabbit, myself.

        • Spuddie

At least the giant rabbit pays for drinks…at least according to the Jimmy Stewart film.

    • Sean Lee Walthour

ur fuckin retarded, ur God sent two she bears to slaughter 42 children for teasing a bald man (2 Kings:23-24) how dare u blame those victims for their own death. a gentleman? He so stupid, he had a panic attack cuz his worshippers built a tower to see him. I guess he too dumb to know they would have burned up tryin to leave the earth's atmosphere.. ur just like ur god, a self righteous piece of horse shit

    • Sean Lee Walthour

furthermore, where is ur god when CHURCHES are bombed, shot up, etc. where is he when pastors n priests are raping their child followers? oh I know where he is? outside of EXISTENCE

  • Billie

Look at what happened to Israel is when they abandoned God….

    • Diane Yoder

Yup. Israel. Still here, getting billions in funding from the US and people like yourselves. Seems to me they turned out okay.

  • Spuddie

At this point, I am really hoping for Bryan Fischer to die an agonizing slow painful death that somehow involves being forcibly violated with large industrial equipment.

[That is the nicest thing I could come up with]

To those who want to blame the "moral decline" and "abandonment of God" for this heinous act of mass murder of 26 people, 18 of which were small children:

    GO F*CK YOURSELVES.

You could not let your high-handed self-righteousness get in the way of basic human decency and sympathy in such a situation. Rather than show even a sliver of humanity you have to act like obnoxious [insert the expletive of choice, I am too mad to come up with something]

You know absolutely nothing about what morality or righteousness means. Love and concern for one's brother, not for you.

    • Bryan Fischer does not want *you* to die a painful death and neither do the rest of us Christians who truly want to show God's love because we have love and concern for you. Plus, we Christians have cried and prayed for these families and will continue to do so. Many of us will be sending messages and letters of encouragement. Do you think you are showing morality and righteousness means by talking like this?

      • Spuddie

If you call what he said, a display of Christian concern and an example of God's love, you have no clue what such words mean. You would deserve all the invective I can spare.

Fischer's remarks was deeply offensive to the sensibilities of any normal human being capable of even the barest form of human emotion and empathy. If you are offended by my language, then so be it. Unlike yourself I am giving an honest display of what would be the normal emotional reaction to such things.

I am offended by such phony self-righteous insensitivity. It deserves the insults I have hurled. My language pales in comparison to the offense made by Fischer and his cronies. If you thought Fischer's sentiments were even remotely acceptable under the situation then I have already given you instructions as to what to do.

      • dagobarbz

Do you think the grieving parents feel better after reading all your religious loudmouths "explaining" what happened? Fuck you Christians. You are assclowns of the lowest order, using tragedy to further your agenda. Cloaking it in your gooey "we lurv you all" rhetoric doesn't fool us either. We know hate speech when we hear it, and an awful lot of it seems to be spewing like a BP oil well from the Christian corner.

Society will be much better off when you people are confined to parading your religious beliefs at home and in your church. Once the secular arena is free of your superstitious nonsense, maybe we can progress. Having you slugs constantly trying to drag us back to the Bronze Age is not helping.

I would not mind if Fischer died a slow and horrible death. It'd give him time to reflect on his obnoxious behavior.

      • Sean Lee Walthour

we seen Yahweh's love.. 2 Kings 2:23-24, what is HELL for? u people are sick. Thinking must not be important lol.. news flash: if ONE couple populated tye entire earth, U are a product of INCEST. btw, ur God is an admitted liar too (Ezekiel 14:9)

So God left the school shootings happen because the Supreme Court blocked prayer in schools!!?? So what if all the kids at that school and their parents wanted prayer, but were just looking for a place to go to school? So God, just sat by and watched and figured "Oh well?" Well, it would fit the bible's old testament where god comes across as a murderous homicidal maniac.
There's a problem with you religious people! When someone asks you for answers and tries to talk reasonably about your invisible make believe God, you rationalize and come up with pure nonsense and gibberish!
When I argue with religious types I cite Matthew 21:21 where it says that with faith as small as a mustard seed you can move mountains and I say, "Okay, just pray and make this pen move over to that shelf," and they will say "Oh, prayer doesn't work that way." Well, why not?
Repeat, Matthew 21:21 says that with faith as small as a mustard seed you can move mountains. It doesn't say "only on months with N's in them," or "not if someone is watching." People try to explain, filling in as needed to try and cover up the Bible's gibberish because they have no chance of explaining the bible in any way remotely relating to reality and common sense. I accept the teaching of psychologist Albert Ellis, who considered religious faith a diagnosable mental disorder.

  • dagobarbz

Where was God when that guy shot up all those Amish kids? Do you think THEY pray in school?

    • Spuddie

But Bryan Fischer's God hates the Amish. Those damn Anabaptist offshoots and their love of the separation of church and state!
