The Bible Slam: Exodus Chapter 19

The Israelites arrive at Mt. Sinai and Moses ascends to the top of the mountain to talk with God. The mountain is smokey, quaking and blasting fire. A trumpet sound erupts from it. The people of Israel are not allowed to touch the mountain because they will be killed by being shot through or stoned to death. Except for Moses, no one is allowed to gaze upon the Lord because they will be killed.

Prior to his ascent, God tells Moses that he favors the Israeliets and will be issuing commands for them to obey.

Discussion Points.

Clearly, this chapter is describing a volcano.     Moses' god is a mountain god.   With respect to Exodus 19:12-13, which reads:

the Skeptics Annotated King James Bible reviewers ask, "Did Moses impose such severe penalties because he feared that someone might see him fake his meeting with God?"
