Internet rumors suggest Tom Cruise may be distancing himself from Scientology in a bid to win Katie Holmes back

In what is beginning as Internet whispers in the last day or two suggests that Tom Cruise may be distancing himself from the Church of Scientology in a bid to win Katie Holmes back.  Holmes and Cruise reportedly divorced over the religion.   Zimbio.com reports:

“He has lost Nicole and now his wife and daughter. He has always used the Scientology techniques but he has now realised they don’t work in marriage," the friend adds. “If Tom truly leaves, Katie would reconsider. She was in love with Tom, he was her childhood crush, it took a lot of strength to break free.

HollywoodLife.com apparently got the story from the tabloid The Star on September 26, and it is just now getting picked up by other tabloid news websites.  In this report HollywoodLife.com says that Cruise hasn't officially made an announcement that he's leaving Scientology, but is hanging out with friends who are not associated with the church.  The report adds:

Tom is reportedly upset that he has had three failed marriages. The actor was married to Mimi Rogers from 1987 – 1990, then Nicole Kidman for 10 years, and now his marriage to Katie Holmes ended in divorce. “Tom has been leaning on friends who have different perspectives,” a source says. “He’s finally seeing that being such an advocate for Scientology hasn’t served him as well as he’d hoped. He’s gone through three divorces and his public perception has sunk to an all-time low.”

Cruise reportedly has been a devotee of Scientology and one of its most outspoken members for over 25 years.  The London Mirror adds:

It had been assumed Tom would immerse himself in the religion but a source within the organisation – whose global headquarters are in East Grinstead, West Sussex – claims Tom no longer wants to be the “face” of Scientology. Along with A-list stars such as John Travolta and Kirstie Alley, Cruise is one the religion’s most high-profile members. But he’s now trying to reduce his involvement with publicising the beliefs.

The source said: “Tom is no longer volunteering to be the public poster boy for Scientology. You’ll see he is seriously calming that down, he will head up the annual fundraisers and awards show but that’s in-house.

“In the outside world, Tom will not be promoting the religion, he is distancing himself.

“Many believe he is pulling away because he thinks it was Scientology that split him and Katie up.” The break down of his friendship with Miscavige is just as crucial in his decision to distance himself from the church.

  • It's nothing to do with wanting Katie back. Tom is terrified because a new book is about to come out which claims Tom beat and attacked his own staff just like David Miscavige the leader of his cult.

I don't take tabloid gossip seriously, but if true, this book could certainly be interesting.
