Former Speaker of the House and GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich sat down with "Next Generation Reporter" Arielle, featured on the Brody File segment of the Christian Broadcasting Network, to explain the national debt.
"It's like a family," Gingrich explained to Arielle about why her generation should be concerned about the debt. "A family that is debt free is able to have more choices and is more secure than a family that carries an enormous debt. We want to find a way to get America back to a balanced budget and to reduce the debt so that your generation won't pay as much in taxes."
He went on to tell Arielle that both President Obama and Congress were responsible for the growing national debt after she phrased the question as, "So why are we in so much debt? I mean, is it that Obama doesn't know his limit or is it that he is just careless?"
Neither Gingrich nor his young interviewer called him "President Obama" — referring to the elected leader instead as Obama — but Gingrich was respectfully referred to as "Speaker Gingrich."
