Starting Your Marriage Right What You Need to Know in the Early Years to Make It Last a Lifetime

The Raineys offer an upbeat and practical manual for marriage to guide couples through the challenges they face as they start their lives together.
5 Stars One of the best marriage/pre-marriage books out there
The authors have done a very good job with covering the vast array of issues in marriage. The book is full of wisdom and is written in a way that is concise and well organized. Short, topical chapters make this book easy to read daily or as a devotional. It has the feel of "I wish I knew then what I know now." Definitely recommended as one of the best marriage books on the market.
5 Stars One of the Best
Different people require different messages. I coach a lot of young couples before marriage and in the early stages of marriage, and this is one of the books I recommend often. Although it's not for everyone, if you're serious about having the kind of marriage God wants you to have (and since He designed marriage, He probably knows best), then STARTING YOUR MARRIAGE RIGHT by Dennis Rainey (no relation), is one of the best.
I recommend this book quite often because I'm well aware that many couples spend more time planning their wedding than they do planning their marriage. A lot of couples won't even read one book, but on the off chance that they will read a book from cover to cover, this is one I want most of my mentorees to read.
I take notes on all of the books I read and in my journal of marriage books, I have far more pages of notes from this book than from any other. The fifty two chapters cover more topics than most. You'll find Biblically based advice here on a variety of topics such as understanding God's plan for your marriage, leaving your parents (this doesn't just mean living on your own), lifestyle choices, money, dealing with each others pasts, roles of husbands and wives, the romantic needs of husbands and wives, decision making, listening, handling the Holidays, and much more.
If you're only going to read one book before, or in the early stages of your marriage, this is one I highly recommend. It may not have all the answers, but it is a wonderful place to start. Make God the focus of your marriage. Pray together everyday. Have a written marriage plan of what you want your marriage to be and review and revise it often, and read this book. You'll be off to a great start.

Right now, I'm dating to be married and this book is good and yes I will re-read it once I get married.
5 Stars A 'must have' tool for every married couple!
My husband and I purchased two copies of this book – one for each of us. It has been an invaluable tool for our marriage from reading it through (there are 52 chapters – you could read one per week for the entire year) or selecting a pertinent chapter to read and discuss together. The contents of this book has provided greatly needed perspective to aid in understanding the male/female gender differences – within God's perfect design for each – in great detail. It speaks of actions to take/ways of communicating with your spouse. This book should be mandatory reading for every newlywed for their 1st year of marriage. I HIGHLY recommend it. A great compliment to this book is the book – or book on cd or conference – by Dr. Emerson called Love + Respect. We also attended Family Life Weekend to Remember conference – the perfect gift for a newlywed couple. Both books and conferences are exceptional tools based on the biblical principles of God's design for marriage and how it should and can work. We have purchased four more of the Starting Your Marriage Off Right for a recently married niece and one that will be married next week and their respective spouses/spouses-to-be. Each spouse should have their own copy to read, make notes and then discuss. Cannot say enough!
5 Stars DOING IT "RIGHT"!
This is the "how to" text on creating and maintaining a great marriage. And yes, you can also use it for helping to rebuild your marriage. Dennis and Barbara have committed their lives to helping people start, restore, build, rebuild marriages.
It is an excellent read and I would suggest you read one of the short chapters in the morning and then discuss it for 15-20 minutes. And yes, you can find 20 minutes if you really want too.
Thank you.
Tim
